fall foliage forecast...don't miss out!

We can expect a spectacular weekend in the mountains.  Here is the fall foliage forecast:
October 2-9: Highest elevations north of Asheville above 5,000 feet show the most color, especially in the Mount Mitchell, Craggy Gardens, Grandfather Mountain, Beech Mountain, Rough Ridge and Graveyard Fields areas.
October 8-16: Color will increase in elevations greater than 4,000 feet, including the Mount Pisgah, Black Balsam, Devil's Courthouse, Waterrock Knob, southwest of Asheville on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It will also be peak color in the Highlands area, including Whiteside Mountain, with plenty of waterfalls to enjoy, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including hikes to Alum Cave and Chimney Tops.

Here some answers to FAQs:

Transportation:  Base/State teams need to coordinate their own transportation.  We will need drivers to shuttle vehicles from the bottom to the top of Mt Mitchell on Saturday.

What to bring:  There is no technical climbing involved, so typical day hiking garb such as rain gear, good hiking shoes/boots, a day pack with water and trail snacks, first aid kit, etc.  Those camping in the group sites should bring tents, sleeping bags, etc.  See your Outdoor Rec for supplies you may need.  We will need to share tents as much as possible so we don't overflow the group sites.

Meals:  If we get some coordinators to put together group meals, we will offer that option for a fee.  If we do not get some folks to help on this, then everyone will need to plan on bringing food on your own or with your base team.  If you want to help with team meals, please call/email Jeff Armentrout.

GEAORGIA is leading the list in sign ups!  Where are NC, SC, and TN participants?

Less than four weeks to the climbs!

We are inside of four weeks to go and we need climbers, base leaders, and plenty of logistics support.  Which base will bring the largest contingent of "resilient" Airmen?  Will it be Dobbins or Charleston?  Or how about the GA or TN ANG?  The weather and fall leaves should be awesome for this event, so don't miss the chance to get into the mountains and share some fellowship!
