Florida: Britton Hill (345ft)
|
Highpoint detailsSomebody has to bring up the rear, and it comes as little surprise that Florida boasts the lowest “high point” of any state. Britton Hill is the highest natural point in the state of Florida, with a summit elevation of 345 feet (105 meters) above mean sea level. Many Florida skyscrapers are taller; as of 2010, the roof of the Four Seasons Hotel Miami is the highest non-natural point in Florida. Topping out at 789 feet (240 m), the tower is more than twice as high as Britton Hill. In fact, the lowest points of sixteen U.S. states are higher than Britton Hill. No matter; this project isn’t always about scaling great heights; it’s about Airmen working together to accomplish a goal.
The hill is located near the town of Lakewood, Florida, just off County Road 285 about 2 miles southeast of Florala, Alabama. A small park called Lakewood Park marks the high point and features a monument, trails and an information board. It’s only 46 miles from Eglin AFB, close enough to bag this “peak” with your entire squadron. Who’s up for it? |
