- The USAF 50 Summits Challenge is open to any US Airmen and their families/friends
- It is not officially sponsored by the US Department of Defense
- High-point trips must be designed to:
- Be as inclusive as reasonably/safely possible (size limits and skill requirements will be considered)
- Have at least 30 days between announcing the trip and its execution
- Harbor participation by the base Outdoor Recreation program and Chaplain's corps
- Include base Public Affairs to highlight resiliency, camaraderie, and outdoor adventure aspects
- Reach out to wounded/injured Airmen and include them wherever possible - For high points that can be driven to or of little physical effort, find a way to make it challenging! Include a ruck-run, carry a heavy object of significance/meaning, create a circuitous route, require map reading/orienteering. Then, towards the end, have injured/limited-mobility Airmen join in with everyone else and reach the high-point together
- A well thought-out risk management and safety plan must be submitted and approved by the directors
- Trip leaders will manage and regularly update their state page, including a post-trip report w/ photos (incl USAF Flag on summit)
- High-point participants agree to follow trip leaders and his/her rules and safety requirements
- Costs associated with gear, travel, and anything else are the responsibility of each participant (obtaining local sponsorship is encouraged and is a great way to raise money for any charity of your choosing)
- You must have the necessary fitness and outdoor experience for a given high-point, which will be determined by the trip leader, as some are non-technical while other high-points require extensive mountaineering/climbing/backpacking experience. However, the goal is to learn and expand your personal boundaries, so we'll do our best to help you in that aspect!
- Awards/gear prizes will be given for the following categories (in addition to random prizes throughout the Challenge):
- Best maintained/most creative blog
- Best organized trip
- Funniest high-point photo
- Most spirited trip (be creative and document it!)
- Most creative challenge (this is especially for those low-altitude high-points... make it challenging!)
**Disclaimer: This is NOT a guided or professional program. All trips are at your own risk and participants must be self-sufficient in terms of skills, equipment, health, etc, for their given environment. The purpose of this website is to encourage fellow Airmen to get outside and to help coordinate outdoor events that promote resiliency.**
